Why do I need a database?

In the simplest of terms, a database is a collection of related tables, used to store information on a permanent basis. If you want to sell online, the most flexible way is to store your item and price information in a database. The web pages are generated dynamically from your stored products. All you have to do is to keep the database current. Customers can enter their details and preferences through your web pages, and they will be stored in the database. The range of possible uses of a database is endless.
You just need one question answered: do I need one?

Three Essential Database Requirements:

  • Security
  • Flexibility
  • Extensibility

  • Don't worry about the details.....
Whatever the choice of database, you need not concern yourself with the technical details. We will look after all of the design, integration and implementation issues on your behalf.

    Our Recommendation

Different database systems exist to fulfil your requirements, and they have differing characteristics. Which one you choose depends on your application, your projected database usage, and the capabilities of the technical staff writing the web application. A simple database system such as Microsoft Access can be used when the website is not "mission critical". For more robust or sophisticated websites, we recommend Microsoft SQL Server.
